Coach Eric Dettman has worked with the Lincoln HS (Portland, Or.) running programs for the past seven years and has taken over as the head coach of the T&F program for the past three years and the XC program for the past year. During his time at Lincoln, he has coached four State trophy cross country teams, 21 All-State athletes, one State champion, one All-America, one male to the Footlocker National Championships, and one girls team to the Nike Cross Nationals. His 2019 girls cross country team finished 18th at the NXN Meet and he had a junior, Mateo Althouse, win the Footlocker West Regional and went on to place 27th at the Footlocker National Championships.
Eric Dettman ran under famed high school coaches Joe Newton and Charlie Kern and experienced a lot of success that culminated in PRs of 1:54 for 800, 4:12 for 1600 and 9:02 for 3200 meters. He was also a 9 time all-state athlete, scored on 4 cross country team championships, was a member of the DMR national champions at New Balance Outdoor Nationals, and on the winning team at the inaugural Nike Team Nationals (now known as NXN). While attending the University of Oregon he was coached by Andy Powell and Vin Lananna.
As a former runner for the University of Oregon and York Community High School, he has been guided by some of the best coaches in America and loves to share those experiences with younger athletes. Coach Dettman believes that focusing on loving your teammates and being the best version of yourself is instrumental to character development and a successful season and preaches those two mantras to his athletes on a daily basis.
