We are excited to announce that Renee Smith, Coach at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, California will be joining us again! Smith, who headlined our Virtual Leadership Workshop in October of 2020 will join us in Portland, Oregon for our 2nd annual PDX Clinic.
Renee will share with us how she develops a strong team culture while also coaching athletes to their highest level. Over the last 4 years Renee coached Dalia Frias to the National 2 Mile High School Girls Record (9:50.7) and the second fastest High School Girls Miler of all time (4:35.06).
Renee’s experience in the corporate world, building and strengthening teams in leadership and team culture have helped her build a foundation with her Cross Country and Track teams. Since her coaching career began in 2001, she has boasted 11 state finals teams in the last 13 years, two-time NXN Team Qualifiers, two individual California State Champions, two Footlocker Finalists, and nine individual finalists in the California State Track and Field Championships. In 2014, she was awarded the Brooks National inspiring coach of the year.
While she feels good about these achievements, what she gets most fulfillment from is creating a team culture where girls gain confidence and a sense of self in an environment that is inclusive, loving, and of course competitive.
During her presentation at our Portland Clinic on December 10th, she will be sharing how she continues to build team culture while also supporting National Class runners and teams. She will share personal stories from Dalia Frias’ recording breaking year and how the team culture supported the endeavors of everyone on the team. We believe this will be a session you surely don’t want to miss!
